Training at the Taiping Institute

Most of the teachers of the Taiping Institute have their respective specialisations therefore what the focus will be is on those particular art/s. Throughout the website we have outlined in Methodology sections various features and contents of each of the different arts and these are the standard to which each is taught.

There are no fixed fees for training, however the Taiping Coaches are therefore more strict with students and can reject at anytime. All matters of risk are at the participants own responsibility. The locations for training are usually in parks or random areas and are scheduled. It is best to ask before appearing since it can disrupt the flow of classes for others. The fact is that watching a single lesson may not mean much since martial arts are usually disseminated in a slow and practical way rather than a performance.

Once you have made contact via email or phone and shall attend a session kindly ensure simple clothing like a t-shirt, trackpants and comfortable sports shoes. Although sometimes new students are prone to ask endless questions (histories, styles, theories) instead of focusing on harnessing their skills, we suggest to keep training time for learning and ask general questions before or after class (unless directly relating to the things being learnt). More importantly, practice outside of class is essential, as a guide 2-3 hours per day in your own time as a minimum. If you have not practiced the teacher can tell and may be reluctant to teach you more and in fact may ask you to just train the previous material.

The classes are not fight clubs, ego trips or heroic ventures. Thus if that is your interest go elsewhere.
Our motto is not to be the best fighter or superficial aspects like that. We aim to practice some martial arts, combat is a focus but so is the salient features of those arts and ensuring that we learn all aspects. We deem this as a life long journey rather than a short term interest or sport. We do not participate in competitions or performances too much unless they relate to our affiliations and our exchange activities. The road here is a personal one, not a glory to proudly show off to others.

For those that do attend please ensure that there are some martial ethics/morality that are a part of being in the team, these are but logical things in relation to being a socially responsible individual. In general, we all have a lot of fun learn wonderful things and form a group of friends that have a positive and confident attitude life. Welcome!
