Praying Mantis Boxing (Tanglangquan) is one of the most popular chinese martial arts throughout the world. Given its long history from the humble beginnings when some observations of a praying mantis gave the basis of some principles that the founder Master Wang Lang could apply to combat, to the incorporation of the best techniques at the time and to the propagation of the art in Shandong and abroad.
Many styles, branches and sub-styles have as a result appeared in the last 200 hundred years. The history and curriculum of the Praying Mantis Boxing system as practiced by the Taiping Wuguan is on the basis of the following praying mantis branches - Qixing Tanglangquan (Seven Star Praying Mantis), Hao Family Taiji Meihua Tanglangquan(Grand Ultimate Plum Blossom Praying Mantis), Cui Shoushan Taiji Tanglangquan (Grand Ultimate Praying Mantis) and Zhaoyuan Liuhe Tanglangquan (Six Harmonies Praying Mantis).
The Taiping Institute has a progressive curriculum that allows through practice and continuous analysis of the systems dynamics which would determine how each style or branch fits into a general evolution, including the appreciation of the enhancements or developments to each whilst gaining excellent combat and martial skills of Mantis Boxing
