Of all the martial arts styles, of all the temples and of all the movies pertaining to such there is not place more famous than Shaolin. Located in the Song Mountains in Henan Province, it is situated right in the centre of all China. The Shaolin martial arts have a glorified history which has impacted all martial arts styles in China if not the world in some way or another.
Unfortunately much of what was Shaolin martial arts no longer exist but much of its remnants have been collected and re-developed over the last 30 years into a new Shaolin system. Some of the Masters devoted much energy into the preservation of their family arts that were passed from their ancestors that once had received them from Shaolin Masters. Now they have placed much effort to return to Shaolin what had been lost.
The Shaolin Temple however in recent years has placed substantial effort in the promotion and commercialisation of its activities rather than the quite pursuit of old. This has both positive aspects such as preservation of culture but also has allowed elements of performance arts into its regime.
Here we outline in brief as there are many sources of knowledge about Shaolin history, only some of the key events and masters and more importantly about the tradtional shaolin system that is now practiced and representative of Shaolin Kung Fu.
